Socially responsible enterprise brings along the co-operation of enterprises, authorities and social organisations, to attain shared goals. This co-operation comes about - with respect to each other’s positions - on the basis of each of their own values and responsibilities of each of the parties. Practice shows that mutual relations more and more appear to lead to a conflict model, where the ‘countervailing power’ of the parties sustains a balance in power relations, to a social partnership where the conflict is dealt with, but where primarily a parallel is been sought of values and possibilities to attain mutual advantages by structural meetings and effective collaboration.

By the liberation of international capital movements a global finance market has come into existence. Through this finance market big investors and financial organizations attain a growing influence on the orientation policy of enterprises. As far as only an eye is kept on the shareholder value on the international finance market, by Anglo-Saxon example, there is a tension with a balanced and interconnected realization of the three dimensions of social undertaking.

There are also backward forces, partly supported by traditional players on the finance market. Especially in the US specific investment funds have emerged, that engage in socially responsible - or ethical or sustainable – investing.
